Eye Glass Lens Material
 
Hard Resin (plastic)
 
These lenses are half the weight of glass lenses and can be tinted to almost any color and density. These lenses scratch easier but can have an optional scratch protection applied.

Lighter, Thinner Lenses
 
These lenses also called "high index" are thinner for stronger corrections than lenses made from conventional materials.
 
Automatic Darkening Lenses in Sun
 
These lenses darken as you go outdoors. They are available in a variety of materials.
 
Polycarbonate
 
These lenses are the most impact resistant lenses available. These are the most popular choice for younger or active patients.
 
Glass
 
Glass lenses are the most scratch resistant lenses, but their weight is a primary disadvantage.
 
Single Vision
 
This is an all purpose lens is available in all materials, and can be used for either distance or near vision correction.
 
Multifocals
 
These type of lenses are for both distance and near correction, when both are needed together in a single lens.
 
No-Line Progressives
 
These lenses are correct for far, inter-mediate and near vision all in one lens without a visible line.
 
Bifocals
 
This type of lens provides both far and near correction in one lens.
 
Trifocals
 
The lenses are basically progressive lenses with visible lines.
